Corporate responsibility at MSD is a commitment to discovering innovative solutions to the world’s greatest health challenges while growing our business in a sustainable way.

Each employee in the UK is entitled to 40 hours paid volunteering each year to give back to a recognised cause. Some of our projects include Dementia Friends, Rennie Grove Hospice, the Scouts and Fareshare Foodbank.

MSD Fellowship for Global Health is a three-month, field-based corporate pro bono programme designed to leverage the skills and talents of our employees worldwide. In July 2018, twenty-nine MSD employees from around the world will leave their regular posts to work with partners in sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, India and the U.S. to help improve global health. Find out more about this exciting programme here.

MSD for Mothers- Every two minutes, a woman somewhere in the world dies due to complications from pregnancy or childbirth. If nothing is done, an estimated 3 million women may die over the next 10 years. MSD for Mothers is a 10-year, $500 million initiative focused on creating a world where no woman has to die from complications of pregnancy and childbirth. Find out more here.

Since 1987, the Mectizan (ivermectin) Donation Programme has donated medicine and worked with a network of global partners to eliminate river blindness. As a result, the countries of Colombia and Ecuador have received verification from the WHO that this goal has been achieved. As of 2015, Mexico and Guatemala have both finished their post treatment surveillance period and are waiting for the verification process from WHO. Eight countries in Africa are hoping to complete final tests for stopping treatment by 2016. We are also working with the World Health Organisation and other partners to control or eliminate 10 of the 17 neglected tropical diseases by 2020.

We have developed a corporate responsibility framework with four areas of focus:

We aspire to improve the health and wellness of people around the world by expanding access to our medicines and vaccines.

We are committed to discovering environmentally-sustainable ways to meet health needs now and in the future.

We are committed to discovering more ways to create a workplace where our employees and business can thrive.

We are committed to discovering better ways to build and strengthen trusted relationships by demonstrating high ethical standards and communicating with transparency.
